Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light

The DLC campaign starts on August 18 with the release of Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light as part of Microsoft’s Summer of Arcade programme on XBLA. The game is the first fully downloadable arcade game based on Lara Croft and not only includes a new isometric view in the brand new single player adventure, but also includes a franchise first two player offline cooperative experience. This marks the beginning of the Downloadable Lara Croft campaign which will run until the end of 2010.

On September 28 – Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light will be released with full online support on PlayStation Network and PC (via the Steam network). On the same day we will offer a free update for Xbox 360 gamers to download which will include the introduction of two player online co-op as well as full leaderboard support and voice chat functionality.

“DLC for us means Downloadable Lara Croft,” said Darrell Gallagher, General Manager of Crystal Dynamics. “It all begins in August with Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light releasing on XBLA and runs through to the end of the year with the additional packs we will be offering. Oh and be prepared for a few surprises.”

From October to December the Downloadable Lara Croft campaign continues with 5 packs available across all formats. The first three are expansion packs featuring a combination of all new puzzle, exploration and combat experiences in the game and new areas to explore. The further two packs are playable character packs, offering gamers the chance to experience the entire adventure without Lara Croft and Totec and instead with some other well-known videogame characters…

Xbox Live Arcade Realizes 30% Growth Over Last May

The Xbox Live Arcade marketplace saw a reduction of 23% in gross revenue when compared to April, but also realized a favorable 30% increase compared to May 2009.

FADE estimates that gaming revenue on Xbox Live Arcade reached $5.8 million USD in the month of May, compared to $7.6 million USD in April – a drop of 23%. Despite the drop, May has always been Xbox Live Arcade’s worst month, as represented by a paltry, estimated $4.5 million USD gross last year. Year to date estimates stand at $39.7 million USD – up 10% from this point last year.

Microsoft also broke records on the number of titles released during May. 10 new titles were released during the month – which is the most during 2010 by a wide margin (February saw 6 new releases, and every other month has seen 5). May 2010 ranks as the 3rd most prolific month on record for XBLA, with only June and September 2009 seeing more releases.

New titles did well during the month, with ‘Metal Slug XX’ leading the way with an estimated 21,000 units sold at $15.00 USD. ‘Doom 2′ outsold Metal Slug XX in terms of units, but not revenue, realizing 24,000 units sold at $10.00 USD during the week of tracking available on the market. Shoot-em-up renovation ‘RayStorm HD’ also did well, selling an estimated 14,000 units at $15.00 USD. Despite all the new releases, a familiar favorite ‘Trials HD’ was the top title of the month, selling an estimated 31,000 units at $15.00 USD. FADE estimates that Trials HD is nearing the elite million seller category, and will join exclusive company with ‘Castle Crashers’, ‘Battlefield 1943′ and ‘UNO’.

XBLA sales up 11% in April due to holdovers, inventory sale

As per the released report by Forecasting and Analyzing Digital Entertainment, LLC (FADE), the Xbox Live Arcade (XBLA) market grew by 11% in April when compared to April of 2009. FADE estimates that XBLA has grown 7% overall in 2010 due to weaker than expected showings in January and February.

Gaming revenue in April for XBLA topped $7.6 million USD during the month, a new record for April, which compares favorably to $6.9 million grossed during the month last year. Year-to-Date revenue stands at $33.8 million – 7% more than this time last year, which saw $31.7 million through the first four months of 2009.

Signal Games’ March blockbuster ‘Toy Soldiers’ remained at the #1 spot, despite a 74% drop in units sold from the month prior, with 53,000 units sold during the month. Aces of the Galaxy and Roogoo heading for Xbox Live Arcade

Experience the thrilling retro arcade space shooter “Aces of the Galaxy,” and enjoy a new type of action-puzzler, “Roogoo,” both launching on Xbox LIVE® Arcade this Wednesday 4th June, 2008 at 09.00.

Enjoy the frantic action of “Aces of the Galaxy,” an old fashioned arcade adrenaline-pumping shoot-em-up that allows players to save the Universe from the wicked Skurgian Empire. Players annihilate enemy ships with an impressive arsenal of upgradeable weapons including high-powered missile launchers, devastating torpedoes and the relentless chain gun. Battle intense waves of enemy Skurgians against a breathtaking outer space backdrop, and choose to fight alone or join up with a friend at home or via Xbox LIVE.

“Roogoo” takes puzzles to a whole new level. Help the Roogoo defeat their enemies, the evil Meemoo, in “Roogoo,” a new and innovative action based-puzzler with addictive gameplay. Players line up multiple platforms on different levels to allow shaped blocks to pass through and once enough stack up, that particular shape closes off. A simple premise becomes more complicated as Meemoos begin to obstruct players’ paths and butterflies attempt to steal blocks away. Players must swivel, roll and boost their way through 45 puzzle-filled levels alone or with up to four friends in cooperative party mode play. For those with a more competitive spirit, “Roogoo” offers a two-player multiplayer mode over Xbox LIVE where players battle to solve the same puzzle and can build up attacks to defeat their competitors.
